The objective of this project was to establish a gas chromatographic (GC) method for the determination of D-/L-arabinitol in urine at Norrland’s University Hospital (NUS) in Umeå. d -Arabinitol is a metabolite of several pathogenic Candida species, and several studies have shown that serum d -arabinitol concentrations and serum d -arabinitol/creatinine ratios are higher in humans and animals with invasive candidiasis than in uninfected or colonized controls (4, 9, 18, 19).
